Franklin is the industrial shape anyone recognises from a bar in an old hall turned bistro: a domed metal shade, a thick riveted band at its neck and a knurled sleeve on the lampholder. The finish is antique brass — warm, subdued, deliberately uneven, with none of the mirror shine of polished plate.The inside of the shade is pale — and that is not a detail The shade is painted a light cream on the inside. A bare metal bowl would swallow a good deal of the light; a pale interior throws it back downward, so the fitting reads brighter and without the brownish cast raw brass gives. The same trick is what produces the warm glow visible around the rim once the lamp is on.You set the height yourself The lamp hangs on a 1.2 m black fabric-braided flex whose length is adjusted during installation. The overall height ranges from 40 to 146 cm. Over a kitchen island one usually aims for about 75–90 cm from the worktop to the bottom of the shade; over a dining table, 70–80 cm. The shade is 23.5 cm across, so a two-metre run takes two or three of them in a row comfortably.The bulb is yours to choose, and it does the work The E27 lampholder takes a bulb of up to 10 W (LED); the source is not included. Endon designed Franklin around decorative LED filament lamps — with the rim of the shade open, the filament shows and is what creates the effect. If you want light that works rather than light that decorates, pick a filament with an opal envelope: the same look, without the point of glare at eye level.Dimming The fitting is dimmable, but the dimming is done by the bulb — so you need a lamp marked dimmable and a dimmer rated for LED loads. The fitting itself contains no control gear.Installation and safety Ceiling mounting, 230 V supply. The lamp is class I, meaning its metal parts require a protective earth connection — a condition, not an option.
