The Enterobacteriaceae tube detection system for the Soleris® instrument consists of a peptone-yeast extract base utilizing lactose as a carbon source. The selective agents include bile salts, sodium lauryl sulfate, and other Gram-positive inhibitors. Acidification of the medium—driven by the metabolism of dextrose or lactose—results in a change in pH. Bromcresol purple (BCP) is employed as the pH indicator.
