The TEKKNI+ profile, ORRE+ type, is a shallow surface-mounted aluminium extrusion in a silver anodized finish, 2.02 metres long. It is the base of the ORRE+ system for housing LED strip. Surface-mounted, so no routing ORRE+ is glued or screwed to a finished surface — it needs no recess and no routing of a furniture panel. The maker provides for two methods: double-sided tape where the substrate is smooth and clean, and metal brackets with a screw where the profile has to span a longer run or work somewhere exposed to vibration. The section is low and wide with gently splayed walls, so the extrusion does not stand off the surface like a cable trunk but lies flat on it. The aluminium works as a heatsink The profile is not merely a cosmetic cover. LED strip stuck straight to the base of the channel passes its heat into the aluminium, which spreads it along the whole length and releases it to the air. Without that the diodes run hotter, which shortens their life and accelerates lumen depreciation — and the denser the strip, the larger the difference. Anodizing additionally hardens the surface and protects it from fingerprints and from scratches during installation. The cover decides the effect The profile itself is an open channel; what the lit line looks like is set by a cover chosen separately from the S14+ range. The transparent version passes the most light but leaves the individual diodes visible; frosted softens them partly; milky diffuses completely and gives a uniform line of light at the cost of a few per cent of flux. Covers come in PVC and in PMMA — the latter is harder and stands up better to UV. The assembly is closed off with 2-in-1 ABS end caps in black, white or silver. Lengths and finishes This item is 2.02 m — an odd dimension that follows from the extrusion format, not a rounded two metres. The same extrusion is also made in 1 m, 3 m, 4.15 m and 6.15 m lengths, and besides silver anodized it comes black anodized, white lacquered and raw. When planning a long run it pays to choose lengths so that there are as few joints as possible: every butt stays visible in the lit line.
