PLATO is an aluminium LED-strip profile designed to be plastered in between two plasterboard sheets. It is 67.2 mm wide and 14.6 mm high; the broad side flanges are screwed to the framing and then skimmed over with filler. This item is a 1 m length in a silver anodised finish. A trimless finish, with no jointing mesh The point of this profile is single: once skimmed, no housing is visible on the ceiling — only a slot of light remains. PLATO's flanges are wide enough that the filler holds on them without embedding jointing mesh, which saves labour and removes the usual place where plaster cracks along a profile edge. This is for designed installations rather than retrofits: the profile has to be fitted while the plasterboard goes up, not added after painting. Double: two 12 mm strips PLATO is not an ordinary single-strip profile. The channel takes two LED strips of up to 12 mm each, side by side. That means twice the light from one slot or — more usefully — two strips of different colour temperature, switched separately. The aluminium carries the heat away: the manufacturer quotes 33.2 W at 55 °C profile temperature and 45.0 W at 65 °C as the maximum power the profile can dissipate. Worth checking against high-output strips. What the profile does not include You get the profile alone. The cover, the strip, the end caps and the driver are bought separately, and the driver is designed to sit outside the profile. Lumines offers PLATO covers in clear, frosted, milky, milky-frosted and black (1 m lengths, 11-2073-10 through 11-2077-10) and plastic end caps with a push-hole in four colours. Lengths of this profile cannot be joined — a longer run is ordered as one piece, up to 6 m. The profile is not sealable; the rating is IP20, so dry interiors only.
