A midi Fractal polycarbonate cover in the clear version, 2 m length, for LUMINES LED profiles. Order code 11-3403-20. Fractal – clear, but not smooth This is not an ordinary clear pane. The Fractal surface carries a fine, light-refracting texture: the cover stays transparent but breaks the point source into many small reflections. The effect sits between clear and opal glass – you can see there are diodes in the profile, but their edges are softened, and the reflections in the cover create a characteristic sparkling pattern. Choosing between versions is choosing an effect, not a quality. Clear passes the most light and keeps the source distinct – used where output and decorative sparkle matter. Opal costs a few per cent of output but hides the diodes completely. For task light over a worktop opal is the usual choice; for a decorative, visible profile, Fractal clear. The midi size – which profiles it fits LUMINES covers are graded by the width of the groove in the profile. Midi fits the alba, aria and akin profiles. It is not a universal part – a cover of another size will not click into the guide, or will fall out. Check which profile range you own before ordering. Two metres – and what follows from that The 2 m length matches the usual profile length in this range, so cover and profile are bought in pairs. Polycarbonate cuts to size with an ordinary fine-toothed saw – support the material along its whole length while cutting so it does not crack at the edge. For transport and storage a two-metre length needs flat support: polycarbonate is flexible and deforms if it rests only on its ends. Why polycarbonate rather than acrylic PC is an impact-resistant plastic – it does not shatter on a knock but flexes, which matters on a cover mounted at worktop height or inside furniture. It also tolerates heat better than acrylic, so it can sit directly above a high-density LED strip without distorting. The price is small: polycarbonate scratches more easily than glass, so clean it with a soft cloth rather than abrasives.
