Calto is a single pendant in smoked glass — a squat, rounded shade 22 cm across — hung on a black cable long enough to drop the fitting 120 cm below the ceiling. The metal parts, the ceiling rose, the cable and the lampholder, are finished in sandblasted black. Smoked glass changes the bulb's role The shade is neither clear nor opal — it is smoked glass, through which the bulb is visible, but muted and subdued. That has two consequences worth knowing before you buy. First, the bulb is part of how the lamp looks. A decorative LED with a visible filament — globe or pear shaped — reads through smoked glass as a warm amber point, and that is the effect this fitting was designed around. An ordinary frosted LED globe turns the shade into a flat grey patch. Second, the tint absorbs part of the light. Calto is a mood and decoration fitting, not a source of task light. Over a kitchen island, where you need to see what you are cutting, it works as a supplement rather than as the only lighting. Over a table, beside a bed or in a hallway, it does exactly what it should. "Sandblasted black" is not the colour of sand The manufacturer calls the metal finish sandblasted black. Sandblasting is a surface treatment, not a colour: the metal is black, and the blasting gives it a matt, fine-grained texture with no gloss. The practical effect is that the ceiling rose throws no pinpoint reflections, does not show fingerprints, and does not clash with the dark glass of the shade. An E27 cap, 40 W maximum — the bulb is not included The fitting takes one E27 lamp rated at a maximum of 40 W, on a 220–240 V mains supply. No light source is supplied, so colour and output are your choice. Warm white at 2200–2700 K suits smoked glass and black metal best; neutral and cool colours strip the glass of its amber tone. Dimming is possible but depends on the bulb. The fitting contains no control electronics — it is a passive holder on a cable. To dim Calto you need a bulb marked as dimmable paired with a dimmer compatible with that bulb. An ordinary non-dimmable LED on a dimmer will flicker or fail to strike at all. Size, installation and family A 22 cm diameter makes Calto a small fitting — on its own it suits a bedside, a hallway or a small table, while three or four in a row compose over a longer worktop. The cable, which gives a 120 cm drop, can be shortened during installation to whatever height the room needs. The IP20 rating restricts the lamp to dry rooms — living room, bedroom, study, dining room, hallway and kitchen; it is not for bathroom protection zones.
