The V-TAC VT-8055-N is an outdoor wall light from the Landscape Soft Light Outdoor range. Its wedge-shaped body, 319 mm wide, meets the wall on its narrow edge and widens downwards, so the large matt diffuser throws light diagonally down across the facade and the area immediately below. Instead of a point of glare it produces a broad, soft pool of light - which is where the range gets its name. Build and weather resistance The whole fitting is polycarbonate: a grey housing and a milky diffuser form a sealed body closed with three rubber rings and a rubber cable gland. V-TAC rates it IP65, meaning full protection against dust and against water jets from any direction, so it can be mounted on an exposed facade, beside an entrance, on a terrace or on a fence. Plastic does not corrode, which also makes it suitable for damp and coastal locations, and at roughly 0.95 kg it puts little load on lightweight cladding. Light output The 20 W SMD LED module produces 2050 lm, an efficacy of 102 lm/W. At 6400 K the light is distinctly cool white - the usual choice for security lighting, driveways and entrances, where legibility matters more than atmosphere. Colour rendering is above 80 and colour consistency falls within 6 MacAdam ellipses, so several fittings installed side by side match each other. The luminaire reaches full output instantly, in 0.001 s, with no warm-up even in cold weather. Supply and control The fitting is designed for a fixed 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz supply - it is hard-wired to the L/N terminal in the base and has no lead or plug. It is not dimmable, so it must not be connected to a leading- or trailing-edge dimmer; switch it with an ordinary switch, a motion or dusk sensor, or a relay in the consumer unit. The declared displacement factor is 0.70 and standby consumption is zero. Installation The manual sets out four steps: switch off the supply, drill the holes and insert the plugs, screw the base to the wall and connect the conductors to the terminal, then close the fitting with the diffuser and shell. The rectangular base occupies 319 x 170 mm on the wall and the luminaire projects 114 mm from it. Connection must be carried out by a qualified electrician. The fitting is serviceable in line with ecodesign requirements - both the LED module and the control gear can be replaced by a professional. Lifetime and warranty Rated life is 20,000 hours over more than 15,000 switching cycles, with a lumen maintenance factor of 0.96 at end of life. V-TAC gives a 2-year warranty and states that the product is intended for 10-12 hours of operation per day - running it 24 hours a day voids the warranty. Worth allowing for when setting a dusk-to-dawn controller.
