Astrid is a garden bollard from the Norwegian brand NORLYS. The name comes from an Old Norse word meaning "divine beauty", and it suits the fixture: a slender, square column with a ribbed structure that plays light against shadow after dark — the flux passes through the vertical slats and draws a regular pattern on the body. Variant 2203WH is the white, RAL 9003 version, 55 cm tall, with DALI-2 control and 2700 K colour. How this fitting emits — two numbers that must be read together NORLYS publishes two luminous flux figures on the product card, and that is not an error. The LED source alone produces 1462 lm, while the flux leaving the luminaire is 200 lm. The difference exists because Astrid is a heavily shielded fitting: light does not escape sideways or upwards, it is directed downwards and through the narrow ribs. The result is 18.9 lm/W for the whole luminaire against 178.3 lm/W for the module itself. The practical consequence: 200 lm is not general driveway lighting. It is marker light — it defines the edge of a path, a step, an entrance or a border line, without glare and without spilling into the sky. To light a walkway you use a row of these bollards a few metres apart, not one unit for the whole job. DALI-2 control The fitting carries a DALI-2 driver — the certified version of the digital lighting control protocol. It allows smooth dimming, addressing of individual fixtures and inclusion in control scenarios (dusk, motion, schedule) without changing the power wiring. A note when selecting: the same Astrid family also exists in a "Dimmable" execution (ordinary dimming, no DALI) under different article numbers. 2203WH is the DALI-2 version and needs a control bus if the function is to be used; without a bus it runs at full output. Resistance: IP65 and IK10 Astrid is rated IP65 — complete dust protection and resistance to water jets from any direction, so hosing down the garden is not a problem. On top of that IK10, the highest mechanical impact class in EN 62262 (20 J impact energy). For a bollard standing beside a path, in reach of mowers, bicycles and children at play, that is the parameter that actually decides its service life. Operating range: −20…+45 °C, rated Ta +35 °C. Construction and materials The body is an extruded aluminium profile, powder coated in white RAL 9003. The lens is PMMA plastic in a milky finish, and the cable entry is sealed with an EPDM gland — a rubber resistant to ozone, UV and ageing, the right choice for a fixture standing outdoors all year. Dimensions: 14 x 14 x 55 cm. Serviceability — an unusual advantage Unlike most outdoor fittings with a permanently potted LED, NORLYS declares for Astrid: "Replaceable light source by a professional" and "Replaceable control gear by a professional". The LED module and the DALI driver can therefore be exchanged rather than scrapping the whole luminaire. The manufacturer also offers a service set, ZN2203xx0009. Module life is stated as L80B50 > 70,000 h to LM-80, and driver durability as 100,000 h. Mounting and connection Fixing is by 3 holes ø9 mm on a ø65 mm circle, every 120°. No base is included — accessories are bought separately and NORLYS offers four: a mounting adapter 3080GA0009, a concreting anchor 205ZX0010, a ground anchor 206GA0010 and an adapter for concrete foundations 206GA0S10. It is worth choosing the right one for your ground when ordering. The terminal block accepts conductors up to 5 x 2.5 mm² and allows loop-in wiring (feeding through to the next bollard in a line), also at 5 x 2.5 mm². Maximum diameter of a round-sheathed cable is ø12.5 mm. Choosing the breaker — data that is usually missing Inrush current is 6.7 A for 2.4 μs, so NORLYS states directly the maximum number of these luminaires per MCB: B 10 A — 46, B 16 A — 74, C 10 A — 74, C 16 A — 119. When laying out an avenue or a run along a driveway, that is the figure that decides how the circuits are split.
