The Lucide JULIUS is a 158 cm floor lamp in which a globe of smoke-grey glass hangs from the end of a right-angled brass arm. The whole thing stands on a round marble base in black, 28 cm across. The globe is 28 cm in diameter, and the reach of the arm puts the light 44 cm in front of the base's centre line. What smoke-grey glass means in practice The globe is neither clear nor opal: it is glass tinted through to a smoky grey with a mirrored sheen, darker at the top and lightening towards the bottom. Switched off, the lamp reads as a smoked mirror reflecting the room. Switched on, it passes a heavily softened light with a distinctly warm, amber cast, and the bulb stays visible as a soft, blurred point. This is a decorative solution: JULIUS builds atmosphere, it does not light a room. The manufacturer records the light direction as downlight — the globe is open underneath, so most of the output falls on the floor and on the chair beneath the lamp. The bulb you choose decides the effect The fitting has one E27 socket rated at a maximum of 25 W and is not dimmable. No bulb is supplied. With a smoked, semi-transparent globe the choice of lamp is plainly visible — and Lucide recommends a specific product for this model: the G95 LED filament lamp (cat. no. 49032/05/62), 9.5 cm across, 4.9 W, 2200 K in amber glass. The large envelope fills the globe and the very warm colour agrees with the smoked tint. An ordinary frosted LED will give a markedly more everyday result. Materials and stability The base is marble — not an imitation and not a lacquered concrete weight. On a lamp 158 cm tall with a 44 cm reach, mass at floor level is a condition of stability rather than an ornament: the 28 cm stone foot balances the moment created by a globe hanging to one side rather than over the axis. The whole fitting weighs 7.2 kg. The frame is metal in a warm brass finish, electro-galvanised and glossy. Operation and connection The lamp is portable, terminates in a Type C plug and carries an in-cord switch — there is no reaching up to the globe and no need to wire it into a wall-switched circuit. It is protection class II, double insulated, so an earthed socket is not required. An IP20 rating places it in dry interiors. The height is not adjustable. Installation materials are included in the box. That is the second thing worth knowing: a broken globe does not mean the end of the lamp.
