The LED Labs ECO+ LED strip is a 5 m reel with 120 SMD 2835 LEDs on every metre – 600 LEDs in total – powered from 12 V DC and emitting a neutral 4000 K white. This is the IP20 version without a cover, intended for dry interiors. How much light it gives Each metre draws 8 W and delivers 860 lm – roughly what one old 60 W bulb gave, spread evenly over a metre. The whole reel gives about 4300 lm, enough to light a worktop under wall cabinets, the inside of a wardrobe or a long shelf. 4000 K is a neutral white with no yellow tint, and a colour rendering index of CRI 80 is the standard that is sufficient for everyday functional lighting. The LEDs have a 120° beam angle. Power supply and cutting to length The strip runs on 12 V DC, so a 12 V power supply is needed to connect it to the mains – it is not included. The full 5 m reel draws 40 W, and the supply should be sized from that figure with a margin; for a shorter section, count 8 W per metre. The strip can be cut every 25 mm at the points marked on the board, so it is easy to shorten to the length of a cabinet or profile. The board is 8 mm wide – compare this with the inner width of the aluminium profile the strip is going into. Build and lifetime The PCB has a 2 oz copper layer, and there is double-sided adhesive tape on the back, so the strip sticks directly to a profile or a clean, smooth surface. The manufacturer states an L70/B50 lifetime of 30,000 hours, 18,000 on/off cycles and an operating temperature range of -20 °C to +45 °C.
