ZAMBELIS E179 is a small in-ground light: a 4.8 cm head sits flush with the paving while the 3.9 cm cylindrical body disappears beneath it. Light leaves sideways through a cut-out in the head, laying a narrow band across a path or terrace rather than firing straight up. This is a fitting for marking - paths, steps, the edge of a terrace - not for uplighting a tree or a facade. How much light The built-in LED module draws 3 W and delivers 95 lumens - little, and deliberately so. An in-ground fitting putting out several hundred lumens dazzles anyone walking past, because it sits below eye level. 95 lm at 3000 K reads clearly without becoming uncomfortable. Colour rendering is 80 and colour consistency is very good at SDCM below 2, so a row of these along a path will light in one identical shade with no visible variation between units. 24 V supply - driver bought separately This is a low-voltage fitting running on 24 V DC, not 230 V. The driver is not included; the manufacturer recommends the LPH-18-24. One to five fittings can be wired in parallel to a single driver - that is the practical planning limit for a run along a driveway or garden path: the sixth point means a second driver. Dimming is available as an option, at the driver or controller. The fitting is safety class I and therefore needs a protective earth conductor. Installation: 13 cm into the ground The most important figure when planning is the 13 cm depth required. A mounting sleeve of 3.9 cm diameter and 13 cm height is provided for, set into the sub-base or soil before the surface goes down. Only the head, a few millimetres proud, remains above the paving. Plan it into the groundworks - retro-fitting a sleeve after the paving is laid means taking part of the surface back up. Durability IP65 means fully dust-tight and resistant to water jets; IK10 is the highest impact rating in the standard, covering a 20 J blow. For a fitting set horizontally into a footpath that is the right pairing: IK10 takes being stepped on and a stone thrown up by a wheel. The operating range of -35 to +50°C covers a northern European winter with margin. The body is aluminium and stainless steel, the diffuser polycarbonate. Lifetime and warranty The manufacturer quotes 30,000 hours to L70B50 - after which half the samples still hold at least 70% of initial output. At three hours a day that is roughly 27 years. Energy class is G. Zambelis gives a 3-year warranty. The light source is built in and not replaceable.
