The V-TAC VT-81000 is a ceiling-mounted infrared motion sensor in a round housing Ø103 mm across and 53.5 mm deep. It detects movement across a full 360° around itself and switches the connected lighting on by itself — it mounts on the surface, between the luminaire and the supply.Load rating: two different numbersThis is the key fact when specifying it. The manufacturer states a rated load of max. 2000 W for incandescent load but only 1000 W for LED load — and it is the second figure that applies in practice, because today's fittings are almost exclusively LED. V-TAC further declares full compatibility with its own LED range up to 500 W. The difference comes from the nature of the load: LED drivers draw a brief, very high inrush current at switch-on, which stresses the sensor's relay far more than a plain bulb of the same wattage.Range and sensitivityThe sensor covers 360°, with a maximum detection distance of 30 m at an ambient temperature below 24 °C. That qualifier matters: a PIR sensor responds to the temperature difference between a person and the background, so the warmer the room, the shorter the real range — in a hot warehouse in summer it will trigger noticeably closer than in a cold hall in winter. Detection works for movement speeds of 0.6–1.5 m/s, that is, normal walking; very slow movement may be missed.AdjustmentsThe sensor has two dials. The first sets the on-time after detection, from 10 seconds (±3 s) to 15 minutes (±2 min); any further movement during the countdown restarts it. The second sets the ambient-light threshold from 3 to 2,000 lux — at the minimum position the sensor only works after dark (below 3 lx), at the maximum it works in daylight too. Recommended mounting height is 2.2–4 m.Where it works, and where it does notThe polycarbonate housing is rated IP20, so the sensor is for dry indoor rooms only — a stairwell, corridor, garage, cellar, warehouse or utility room. Working temperature is −20 to +40 °C at humidity below 93%. The manufacturer advises against aiming the sensor at highly reflective surfaces, mounting it near heat sources (vents, air conditioning) or pointing it at objects that move in the wind — each of these causes false triggering.
