The 6581 power supply is a component of the Komatsu magnetic track system by Antigo. It converts mains voltage to 48 V DC and delivers up to 100 W to the track. Without a power supply a magnetic track does nothingThis needs stating plainly, because it causes confusion on a first order. The Komatsu track runs on 48 V direct current, not 230 V — so the fittings themselves cannot be wired into household mains directly. This supply is a required component, not an optional extra.The low voltage is an advantage rather than a limitation. 48 V DC is safe to touch, which is why magnetic fittings can be clipped in and repositioned without switching the power off — the whole idea of a magnetic system rests on exactly that. 100 W — how many fittings it will carryOne hundred watts is the power budget for the whole track fed by this supply. The combined wattage of everything clipped into it must fit inside that figure, and in practice it is worth leaving headroom:plan for about 80 W of continuous load at most (80% of the rating) — the supply then runs cooler and lasts longer;with typical magnetic spotlights of 6–12 W, that gives roughly 7–13 fittings per supply;for linear modules, count watts per metre rather than per piece.If a scheme exceeds the limit, you do not push the load up — you add a second supply and split the track into sections. An external unit, not hidden inside the trackKomatsu offers two kinds of supply, and it is worth knowing which one you are ordering. 6581 is the external unit — a brick of 190 x 50 x 37 mm mounted beside the track: in a suspended ceiling, in the void above the track, in a cupboard or in an installation box.The alternatives in the same family are the internal supplies, concealed inside the track profile, and the Slim series. The external brick is the cheapest option per watt and the easiest to replace — and a driver is the shortest-lived component in any such system, so access to it matters.Plan a place for it at the design stage. The supply needs airflow; sealed into an airtight recess it will overheat and shorten its own life.
