MODENA BIG 380 is a classic outdoor lantern from Norlys in the arm-up configuration: a shaped bracket reaches out from the wall and lifts the six-sided lantern body above the fixing line. This particular item is index 380WH — white housing in RAL 9003. The fitting stands 76 cm tall, is 32 cm wide and projects 47 cm from the wall, so it is a large lantern for a presentable façade rather than a small light beside a garage door. Cast aluminium and polycarbonate panes The body is powder-coated cast aluminium and the glazing is clear, UV-stabilised polycarbonate — not glass. In practice that means two things: the lantern will not shatter when struck by a branch or a stone thrown by a mower, and the UV stabilisation slows the yellowing of the panes over years in the sun. The cable entry is sealed with an EPDM gland, a rubber that resists ozone and weathering. Norlys backs the fitting with a 5-year general warranty and a 25-year anti-corrosion warranty. Light source: E27 holder, lamp supplied separately The lantern uses an ordinary E27 holder, and the lamp is not included — it is replaced by the end user, so there is no service call and no need to replace the whole fitting when a module reaches end of life. Norlys states a maximum of LED 9 W and names Osram LED Parathom Classic and Philips Master LEDbulb / CorePro in E27 as recommended retrofits. Because the panes are clear the lamp is visible from outside — a decorative filament lamp reinforces the period look, while an opal envelope gives softer, less glaring light. Mounting and durability The lantern fixes through four ø5 mm holes on a 25 × 140 mm pattern. The terminals take conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm² and the gland is sized for round cable of 7–10.5 mm diameter. The fitting is rated IP54 (limited dust protection, splash-proof from any direction) and protection class II, meaning double insulation — no earth conductor is required. The operating range is −20 to +45 °C, so wintering on an exposed wall is not a concern. Mounting on a building corner For this series Norlys offers a separately sold corner bracket, index 152XX0009, which lets the lantern sit on an external corner — a situation where the flat backplate on its own will not seat. A lampshade service kit (index 06380004) is also available should the glazing be damaged.
