SUTTON is a solar-powered outdoor wall light – a slim aluminium bar 25.8 cm long with an 8.6 × 8.6 cm section, in matt black powder coating. It has no cable and no plug: installing it needs neither an electrician nor any wiring. It simply screws to a wall in a spot that catches sun during the day. Panel, battery, sensor The fitting charges during the day from its built-in panel and stores the energy in a 2200 mAh lithium-ion battery at 3.70 V, supplied with the product and permanently fitted – the manufacturer describes it as non-replaceable. A day/night sensor sits on the frame: the light switches itself on at dusk and off at dawn, with no timer and nothing to set. There is also an on/off switch on the body for switching it off for longer periods – over winter, for instance. How much light it gives 1.5 W and 82 lumens – take that literally. Solar fittings do not light a driveway; SUTTON marks a path, picks out a step, the edge of a terrace or a fence post. The beam angle is 100° and the manufacturer describes the distribution as all-around and diffuse, so the light wraps around the bar rather than forming a hard cone. At 2700 K the colour is the warmest of the standard whites – the same tone incandescent bulbs gave; in the evening it does not glare and does not turn a garden into a car park. IP54 – and what that allows The rating is IP54: limited dust protection and protection against splashing water from any direction. That is enough for a house wall, a terrace, a balcony or a fence under an overhang – but not for a spot hit by jets of water, such as under an unflashed eaves or within reach of a pressure washer. The manufacturer also states the fitting is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Build and class III The body is powder-coated aluminium with a matt finish – powder coating survives outdoors far better than ordinary paint, and matt black does not show rain streaks. The fitting is protection class III, meaning it works on safety extra-low voltage (4 V) and needs no earth – hence its safety in a garden where children and animals have free access to it. Life expectancy The LEDs are permanently integrated with no option to replace them; the manufacturer declares 25,000 hours of operation and 30,000 switching cycles, which at night-time duty means many seasons. Lucide gives 3 years of warranty on the fitting itself. Worth remembering that in solar products it is usually the battery, not the diode, that sets the real end of service – and here it is not replaceable.
