The Lucide MAREN is a ceiling spotlight on a 76 cm bar, with four heads ending in spherical 10 cm shades of metal mesh. The whole fitting is matt black, spray painted, and mounts on a round 10 cm ceiling plate set at the centre of the bar. Four directions, each aimed separately MAREN's defining feature is its movable heads: the manufacturer describes them as rotatable and tiltable through 360°. Each of the four shades is aimed independently, so one fitting can light a worktop, a picture on the wall and a walkway at the same time — or all four can be turned the same way for a strong wash on a single surface. That is the fundamental difference from a flush ceiling light, which points down and cannot be adjusted at all. Mesh shades: light and shadow together The shades are not solid — they are open spheres of metal mesh. Light leaves both through the front and through the weave, casting a soft, dotted pattern onto the ceiling and walls. The bulb stays visible through the mesh, so what goes in matters: a decorative filament looks intentional here, a plain frosted bulb looks accidental. Lucide classes the light direction as diffuse, all-around precisely because of the mesh. Four E14 sockets, 25 W maximum each There are four E14 sockets and no bulbs are included. Maximum rating is 25 W per socket — a thermal limit set by the enclosed metal head, and one to respect with incandescent lamps. With LED sources it is of no practical consequence: four filament LEDs of 4–5 W each come to a dozen watts or so in total. Lucide recommends bulb 49046/03/62 for this model. The fitting is dimmable but has no control of its own — a wall dimmer and dimmable bulbs are needed, both bought separately. Installation MAREN is a class I fitting and requires an earth conductor. It is supplied without a plug, for permanent connection at a ceiling outlet; installation materials are included. The mounting plate is 10 × 10 × 2.5 cm and the ceiling rose is round, 10 cm across, in black. Overall height is 17 cm and is not adjustable — the bar fixes directly to the ceiling. The IP20 rating restricts it to dry interiors. It weighs only 0.8 kg, so no special anchors are needed — an ordinary fixing into the slab, or a plasterboard plug suited to the board, is enough. Where it works best 76 cm of length and four independent directions suit specific jobs: above a kitchen counter or island, along a hallway, over a bookcase, in a study, and in a small shop where displays need accenting.
