Koster 724 is a classic bracket lantern: a straight tube reaches out from the wall and ends in a domed shade that hangs free and sends all of its light downward. The fitting has a 44 cm projection and stands 24 cm tall, so it lights the path or the doorstep rather than the wall it is mounted on. Light that only goes down Norlys states ULOR 0% for this luminaire — the share of flux directed above the horizontal is zero. In practice no ray escapes upward: it does not light the upstairs windows, does not put a glow over the plot, and does not count toward light pollution. The distribution is symmetrical and directed downward, with a luminaire efficiency of η = 48%. Cast aluminium and a PC lens The body is powder-painted cast aluminium in graphite RAL 7016. The lens is transparent polycarbonate with a structured surface, UV stabilised — the structure breaks up the image of the filament, and the UV stabilisation keeps the plastic from clouding and yellowing after years in the sun. A silicone gasket seals the fitting and the cable enters through an EPDM gland. Resilience Ingress protection IP54 covers dust and splashing water from any direction — rain and façade washing are not a problem. Mechanical resistance IK10 is the top class in the standard: the lens withstands a 20-joule impact, roughly a 5 kg object dropped from 40 cm. That matters at entrances, gates and passageways, where knocks are easy to come by. The terminals accept up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and up to 3 × 1.5 mm² when looping fittings through (a row of lanterns along a driveway on one circuit). The gland takes a round cable of ø7–10.5 mm. Class I means the circuit must carry a protective earth — this is not a two-wire fitting. Service and variants The shade is available as a spare part (service kit 06710000), so breaking it years from now does not mean replacing the whole fitting. The model comes in two standard finishes: graphite RAL 7016 (724GR) and aluminium RAL 9006 (724AL); Norlys produces other colours to order from their own pattern book. Where it works Koster is a pattern that will not age with fashion — it suits a brick house as readily as a modern rendered façade. The bracket pushes the light away from the wall, so the fitting lights a front door, steps, a gate or a driveway well.
